Q: What is Mama & Me?

A: Mama & Me was created by the team by our team at Mama & Me. Some of you have asked if we offer DIY recipes and unfortunately, we don’t not because we don’t want to but simply because the ingredients need to be measured so precisely. . Our goal is to help people achieve their health and wellness goals in an affordable way, so now we’re offering our most popular products via Mama & Me.

Q: What type of business is Mama & Me?

A: Mama & Me is a business to consumer (B2C) company. Everything is manufactured by our partners both here in South Africa and in the USA. We market directly to consumers, through our wholesalers (e.g. Doctors, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Retail Stores, etc…), or through our Earthologist (aka affiliates) program (e.g. bloggers/websites, social media influencers, etc…)

We are a direct sales business (customers can buy from us, and not go through third parties), and we are not a multi-level marketing (MLM) company (there are no downlines, no membership fees, no requirement to have inventory, etc…).

Q: Where do you get your product formulas?

A: Our manufacturers have extensively studied herbs and natural remedies for over 10 years and formulate our products based on that knowledge. It’s not unusual for our formulas to go through 3 – 4 (or more!) versions before we are ready to release them.

Q: How are your products tested? Do you send them to a lab?

A: We have a team of people we test on! This includes ourselves, our families, and volunteer affiliates at times. We start with such safe ingredients that we feel completely comfortable jumping straight to human testing. At this time, we do not perform any lab tests on our products, although we hope to have a few of them tested in the future to verify levels of active ingredients.

Q: What is the shelf life of your products?

Because our products are 100% natural with no artificial preservatives, they do expire. Products that are applied topically have a shelf life of about 1 year. All of our glycerin tinctures have a shelf-life of 12 months (from the start of the creation process) and our alcohol tinctures: 2 years. So this means that the expiration date you will receive will be somewhere under 11 months for glycerin tinctures and somewhere under 23 months for alcohol tinctures. You can extend the shelf life by keeping your products in the refrigerator, although it is not required. Products are safe to use past the expiration date if you are comfortable. The expiration dates are very loose estimates (simply how long we’ll guarantee a product for) and products usually last much longer. If a product had gone bad, it would be very obvious: rancid smell and/or visible mold.

Q: Are your products cruelty-free or vegan?

A: Our products are cruelty-free! We are Leaping Bunny certified. We do not test on animals ever. (Actually, we test on ourselves!)  We no longer use beeswax in any of our formulations.

Q: Are your products certified organic?

A: Not at this time. It’s more important to us to stay affordable than to pursue an expensive certification. But please rest assured, we use as many organic ingredients as we can in our products. Approximately 80% of our ingredients are organic. Our herbs are 99% organic, our butters and oils are about 70% organic. You’re getting all the quality…without the cost.

Q: Do you use corn, soy, gluten, parabens, fragrances, etc. in your products?

A: No, we absolutely do not. We stay away from all major allergens (corn, soy, gluten, nuts) as well as anything that is not completely natural. That means no parabens, no sulfates, no fragrances, no SLS, no preservatives. We use only natural plant oils, jars of butter, and herbs to create our products.

Q: Why are there slight variations in my products, or slight imperfections?

A: It’s the blessing of the handmade — it’s never exactly the same! We promise that any slight variations or imperfections are cosmetic only and do not affect the function of the product. For example, hard kinds of butter containing palmitic or stearic acid in large amounts (shea, mango, kokum) can sometimes bead up in products. This just means we don’t use any synthetics to prevent it from happening! We think of it as you know it was made by a person and not a machine.

Q: When can I expect my product to ship?

A: It’s our goal to ship orders out the same-day or the next business day (M – F). Typically, your order will arrive 1 – 3 days after.

Q: Do you offer _____?

A: Maybe! We launch new products a few times a year, based on our needs and customer demand. If there’s something specific you’d like to see, mama&mamaandme.co.za and let us know. If there’s enough demand, we might just make it.

If you simply don’t want the item, then items that are in original packaging can be returned. Opened items may not be returned, sorry. You can find the full return policy here.
